Arizona Grandparent Ambassadors

OUR STORY

AZGA began in Tucson in 2010, as an informal group of grandparents who found ourselves raising our grandchildren. Some of us were really struggling financially, some needed help with medical, legal or other resources; and we all needed other grandparents to share our stories, to cry, vent and - more importantly - to laugh and feel good about our grandchildren.

We all realized that the capacity for making changes for our children was in our hands, if only we worked together, and spoke with one voice. So AZGA formed a steering committee comprised of grandparent and kinship caregivers in communities all across Arizona.

AZGA hosts an annual statewide advocacy summit for grandfamilies and other kinship families. Summits include sharing stories, resources, and developing advocacy skills. We also host regional meetings and advocacy training and keep members informed of opportunities to be heard at the Arizona Legislature.
